One of the major issues concerning performance engines
is the warping of the cylinder block as well as the shifting of the cylinders.
In our visit to Spoon Sports while in Japan, Mr Ichishima, the president
of the company showed us a prototype oil pan/block girdle which reinforces
the B-series blocks to a large extent.
The oil pan comes in 2 piece, the upper piece forms the
bock girdle and replaces the 3-cap stock block girdle in the B18C/B16B
with a 5-cap block girdle which also spans the whole bottom of the block.

The bottom half forms the oil pan and bolts to the bottom of this block
girdle and features a baffled pickup area and cooling fins cast into the
main pan. It also features an extra 1L capacity to aid in cooling.
Whel fully assembled the il pan looks pretty impressive and since it
is made of cast aluminium, it makes dented oil pans a thing of the past.
The finished product will be anodized spoon blue (the blue you see is prussian
blue used in machine work). I'm eager to see this go into full production.
No prizes as to who will buy one as soon as it is available.
